‘Cosy but Tough’. A living room that fuses masculine colour and strong architectural detail with softness, comfort and layers of texture.

Before the redesign, the space was entirely white with a standard grey media wall. It lacked identity and atmosphere. Ollie knew he wanted something with more presence, but needed help defining the direction. At our initial appointment, I explored a range of influences and we refined them into a scheme that felt bold, grounded and unapologetically confident.

Cosy nook in a living room

The vision was to create a room that feels like a modern gentleman’s retreat. Rich, cocooning and slightly decadent. I colour drenched the space in a deep green to build instant drama and depth, then introduced panelling to give the walls weight and architectural strength. The darker palette anchors the room and creates that smoking room mood, intimate and atmospheric.

From there, it was all about layering. Texture on texture. Plush cushions against structured upholstery. Custom-made curtains softening the edges. Warm tones woven through the accessories to break up the depth of green and stop it feeling flat. Every element clashes just enough to feel interesting, but remains intentional and controlled.

The result is a space that feels powerful yet inviting. Masculine but comfortable. Curated, layered and full of personality. Cosy, but tough, exactly as intended.
