This week we were split into pairs and each pair given a different space to design for at The Passage - a homelessness charity in London.

As the winner of last week's challenge I got to pick who I worked with. I chose Duran, which may have surprised the viewers as naturally someone like Ben would've been an obvious choice for me.

But there was method in my decision, I knew that this challenge called for more of a contemporary approach, and that we would need a scheme that was uplifting and inspiring.

Not to put myself down but my personal style is very moody and atmospheric, not really suitable for the brief we had this week. So I chose to work with Duran, as I knew her strong understanding of colour theory and ability to bring playfulness into design would be just what we needed to succeed.

Our room was the 'Group Workshop Space'. This is a multi-functional room that is used for everything from packaging donations to barbering appointments to workshops and even filming promotional stuff for the organsation!

We set to work, with Duran designing the large partition shelving and storage unit, which created an entranceway into the previously rectangle room.

Meanwhile I worked my magic on the 3 melamine coffee tables to create a packing table on wheels. I was really proud of this creation because it gave the users of the room something they genuinely needed without wasting the furniture that was already in the room.

Duran devised the colour palette of peach, pale blue and ultramarine blue, which was carefully curated to bring calm yet uplifting energy.

I was in charge of the seating area, so I designed bespoke modular seating that could be configured in any layout and was big enough to seat large groups of people at once.

I made the space comfortable and inviting with a mix of cushions, a rug, 2 coffee tables that I limewashed to bring in some texture, and upholstered some chunky seatpads.

We painted the storage cupboard doors in blackboard paint so that the space can be used for teaching, and I sourced a proper hairdressing chair and mirror to make the barbering appointments easier and more enjoyable for both the patrons and the service provider.

We were delighted with the comments from guest judge Sophie Robinson as well and head judge Michelle Ogundehin selected us to sail through to week 4!
