The brief was to design an aspirational studio apartment show home. UNCLE typically caters to young professionals and the design of the communal areas was strong, with contemporary colour, pattern, furnishing and decor.

I wanted to show how potential renters could get the most out of these apartments so the first decision I made was to move the bed over to wall. The bedroom nook didn't have a lot of room around the edges of the bed so moving it over created a nice space between the bed and the mirrored wardrobes.

This extra space allows residents to properly access the wardrobes without feeling squashed in, and gives ample room to get dressed.

To give the bedroom a feeling of privacy whilst still allowing light to come in I designed a bespoke room divider which was made up of shelves, acting as additional storage too. This divider was very similar to things you can purchase from the high st or second hand, but the reason I chose to use bespoke measurements was to show the space off in its best light - these are show homes after all.

My thought process was very intentional in this design, I wanted to utilise as much of the BoConcept furniture that is provided in these apartments as possible to give potential renters ideas that they can use themselves. As much as we all love to see clever builds I didn't feel this was the right brief to start over-complicating designs, this needed to be simple, effective and aspirational whilst not requiring the tenants to purchase a jigsaw and sheets of plywood!

I used a palette of beige, light blue and chocolate brown to bring a calm and contemporary look which would be universally appealing to the target market.

Separating the entrance hall using dark brown was a risk but one I feel paid off because not only did it effectively zone the space, it made you curious of the space that awaited you further inside.

I used my signature limewash to add texture and depth to the walls and ceiling, and I finished the look off with mid-century style decor and additional furniture to bring a feeling of homely high-end.

I absolutely loved designing this space was so pleased with how it looked.
