A maximalist living room that works with the lack of natural light due to north-facing position.
Before the redesign, Clare’s living room was challenging due to its north-facing position and lack of natural light, coupled with its unique layout. The space had great potential but needed bold design choices to balance functionality with comfort. Clare knew she wanted a room that felt vibrant and full of personality, but wasn’t sure where to start. After our initial consultation, we decided to embrace a Rock & Roll Maximalism style, integrating rich colours, bold patterns, and playful contrasts to create a room that was both functional and exciting.
The vision was to create a multi-functional space that served as both a cosy sanctuary for evenings and a vibrant, motivating workspace during the day. We embraced Clare’s love of maximalism by incorporating deep, dramatic colours and exciting textures, creating a space that oozed confidence and character.

We started by shifting the layout to move the seating area to the back of the room, making space for a snug area perfect for cosy evenings. The bold plum sofas are layered with rich cushions in varying textures, while the wallpaper brings in a bold, floral print with hints of animal motifs, making a statement without overwhelming the room. The desk, placed strategically by the bay window, takes advantage of the natural light during the day, fostering focus and inspiration.
Every piece in the room is carefully chosen to add layers of interest, from the luxurious velvet cushions to the striking neon sign that provides a playful pop of light. The mix of vibrant tones, luxurious fabrics, and eclectic prints creates a space that's as much about relaxation as it is about celebration – embodying the true spirit of Rock & Roll Maximalism.
The result is a room that feels full of life and energy – a perfect blend of comfort, style, and functionality. It's bold, unapologetic, and uniquely Clare, with just the right amount of fun and flair to make it feel like home.
